What are important application dates to remember?


 The application for Fall and Spring 2012 is now open!


November 1: Your application and all materials must be submitted online, e-mailed, or postmarked by this date.

We will notify you of our admission decision in late December.

Early notification is non-binding. That means you have until May 1 to decide whether or not you want to enroll. Advantages: You’ll know early in the process whether you’ve been accepted; we’ll know that you are very interested in attending the College of Charleston. However, if you think you can significantly improve your grades or test scores in the first semester of your senior year, you should wait until the regular notification period to apply.


December 1: If you want to be considered for a merit-based scholarship, your application and all materials must be submitted online, e-mailed or postmarked by this date. Grades, test scores or other talents determine eligibility for merit-based scholarships.

We will notify you of our admission decision by April 1. Scholarships are usually awarded in February and March.


February 1: Your application must be submitted online, e-mailed or postmarked by this date. 

We will notify you of our admission decision no later than April 1.

Many applicants apply during this period. We will accept applications after February 1 on a space-available basis, but priority will be given to applicants who apply before that date.


May 1: Your deposit must be received or postmarked by this date.

This will confirm your enrollment at the College. If you’ve paid your tuition deposit and your housing deposit by May 1, you will be guaranteed on-campus housing.

Decisions will be made and notifications sent out on a rolling basis.

What is the status of my application?

Please note that we are in the process of migrating to a new system, so you may experience some delay in receiving your e-mail invitation to access our MyCharleston portal for the first time.

Feel free to call us at 843.953.5670 and we will be happy to give you a status update on your application or your transfer credit evaluation over the phone. Please note that we cannot give admissions decisions over the phone.


MyCharleston is the central online portal for all College of Charleston business, including admissions status updates, admissions decisions, transfer credit evaluations, deposits, and billing. After you’ve submitted your completed application, we will send you a special invitation e-mail with instructions for logging into MyCharleston for the first time. This e-mail will contain a special personalized link that will alllow you to set up your MyCharleston account. Be sure to follow the instructions in this e-mail, and don’t forget to set up your security questions in case you ever need to reset the password to your account. During periods of high volume, it may take a few weeks for this e-mail to be sent. If you never received an e-mail invitation, or have misplaced it, please e-mail mycharlestonapplicant@cofc.edu and we’ll resend it within 3 – 4 days.

After you’ve set up your MyCharleston account for the first time through the e-mail invitation, you can log into MyCharleston directly at my.cofc.edu. To log in, use your CofC ID Number for your username, and the password you selected when you set up your account.


After you’ve submitted your application and your MyCharleston account is set up, you will be able to view your application status online at my.cofc.edu.

We will continue to update your status as we receive and process all of your documents, including transcripts. Remember to allow time for us to receive and process your materials – at least two weeks in most cases. At times of peak volume, such as during application deadlines, it may take longer than usual to process your materials. Documents that are not required for your application, such as letters of recommendation, will take longer to process.


Admissions decisions will be posted on MyCharleston, and you will also receive a letter in the mail. Review our admissions deadlines to see when decisions will be posted.


While we are migrating to our new MyCharleston portal, please call us at 843.953.5670 or e-mail transfer@cofc.edu to check the status of your transfer credit evaluation. Once our migration is complete, you will also be able to view your transfer credit evaluation online in MyCharleston (my.cofc.edu). We will continue to update your transfer credit evaluation as we receive and assess your transcripts, so check back often.


Once you’ve been accepted to the College, you will by able to make your enrollment and/or housing deposits and pay your tuition bills all through our MyCharleston portal. You may also submit your deposits by mail. You’ll receive instructions on depositing in your admissions acceptance letter.

How do I apply as a transfer student?

Transfer students make up a large part of the College of Charleston student body. Each year, we welcome many students from other institutions. Whatever your reasons for transferring to the College might be, you’ll find lots of students like you on campus. You will attend a special orientation session, and have a chance to connect with other transfer students.

There are four categories of transfer students:

  • Transfer students with more than 30 hours of earned college-level credit
  • Transfer students with fewer than 30 hours of earned college-level credit
  • Readmit students — have attended the College of Charleston before
  • Second degree students — have already earned one bachelor’s degree

You will need to complete and submit specific parts of the application before we can consider you for admission to the College. Our requirements depend on what type of transfer student you are, so be sure to read those very carefully before you apply. Keep an eye on applicationdeadlines, and check out what grants and scholarships you might be eligible for.

How do I apply for Undergraduate Admissions?

Applying to College of Charleston for Undergraduate Admissions

Applicants for Freshman admission must submit the application, application fee ($45.00 for paper application, $35.00 for online application), high school transcript, SAT or ACT scores, and an essay.

Letters of recommendation beyond the counselor recommendation on the Secondary School Report (Part II of Application) are not a formal requirement for application to the College of Charleston. Only applicants who are also applying to our Honors College are required to obtain two (2) teacher recommendations (see Honors application). If you are not applying to the Honors College and still wish to submit letters of recommendation please limit them to two. They must be submitted via email to the following address admapplicants@cofc.edu.
Resumes, activity sheets and any other additional information that you wish to submit to us should also be emailed to admissions@cofc.edu.
Transfer applicants must submit the application, fee, and all college transcripts.  Transfer applicants with fewer than thirty hours must meet requirements for freshman applications as well (see above).
